Withernsea Pirates Big Gig Warm Up

A full day of entertainment to bring together many different groups and organisations in the town to celebrate the popular and colourful image of Pirates in Music, Dance, Art, Theatre and Song.

With guests and visitors coming literally from all over the world we aim to help revive the interest and popularity of Withernsea which was once a popular holiday resort. The many groups that have shown an interest and asked to come on board for The Pirate Festival include, The Lions, The R.A.O.B, The Local Dance Groups both adult and childrens, The Community Choir, The Residents Association, The R.N.L.I, The Coastguard Association, Local Council, Theatre Groups, Bands, Poets and Singers and even our Local Ariva bus company has asked if they can be involved.
The Withernsea Pirates hold events throughout the year to raise funds for the Festival and to keep a high profile. We have group meetings on a weekly basis and open social evening once a month which gives a chance for new people to be involved.
The popularity of the Withernsea Pirates is reflected by the nice comments and enquiries that we get from traders, residents and visitors to the town. We have 2499 members on our Fb page.

What we'll do:
  • Stage a full day of Music and Performing Arts event in the centre of Withernsea Town.
  • Bringing many of the groups and organisation within the town to celebrate together.
  • Promoting a Fun and Enjoyable image of Withernsea throughout the world.
Why it's a great idea:Withersea was once a popular and thriving holiday resort, but sadly over the last few decades it has declined. This has had a devastating effect on the town and the town folk. Everyone has had enough of the knocks and are desperate to see a change in the town, something that will put Withernsea back on the map.
That is just what we intend to do with this years Festival. We will celebrate in such a way, that everybody will take note, not only of the Withernsea Pirates and our events, but also of the looks of pleasure on the faces of those around the. There will be something for all ages, participation will play a great part in the festival.

How we'll get it done:
  • The hard work of a small group of enthusiastic Pirates will ensure that everything will be achieved .
  • By asking for guidance from government funded bodies and local councillors.
  • By visiting other similar events throughout the country and seeing what works and what doesn't work for them.
I only wish that our enthusiasm could be bottle and sold, within the group we are all equal and the feeling of belonging to something special is quite amazing, this is something that is echoed by everyone in the group. We grow in confidence from week to week and sometime frighten ourself with some of our ideas, but then we all get stuck in and Hey Presto another success, however small it may be it is still an achievement for the Withernsea Pirates.
